Dell Laser Printer Error Codes - How to Fix Them

The Dell Laser Printer is one of the best around in the market. However, many users complain about the numerous error codes they frequently receive. Here are some troubleshooting tips on fixing these errors effectively.

Error code: 004-332

This type of error code implies that you need to restart the printer again. However, do check to see if toner cartridges are seated in the proper position. Also ensure that they have been locked in. This is an error commonly associated with the Dell 3100cn laser printer.

Error code: 016-370

This is yet another error message asking you to restart the printer. You need to switch off the printer and then connect it via the USB cable. Press the hold and cancel buttons simultaneously. Then power on the printer again. On your LCD display you should typically see a message saying 'ready for download mode'. You will then need to initialize the firmware update process.

Error code: 009-360

Sometimes the Dell laser printer only recognizes the yellow toner as 'missing'. Hence you need to replace the Dell toner with a new one. It can happen when the toner is a remanufactured one with a different chip.

Error type: Not printing black text

This type of error happens because of a problem with the power supply. You need to check if the I/O cable is connected properly or not and that all connections are in place.

Error type: Printing text in red

At certain times you might be able to print perfectly well the first two times and then you see the text being covered in red color. This can happen if the unit is still not properly clean. You could try cleaning the tube.

Error message: Insert yellow toner

Sometimes in spite of replacing the yellow toner in your Dell 5100 cn laser printer you might still get this error message. Try to change the black cartridge. You could also check to see if the toner cartridges are locked appropriately.

Error message: Print head error

This type of error message typically happens when the printer head is not clean enough. You could try installing software that is used to clean the head of the printer. You could try clicking on 'start' then go to 'settings' and then 'printers'. Select your printer and right click on it and go to 'properties'. Check to see if there is any such software installed.

Error code: 1200

This error code is commonly associated with the Dell 922 printer. Usually you might see the cartridge moving front and back and slamming itself against the printer. You need to tighten the strings located on the back of the printer and then it should work fine.

The Fastest Methods For Fixing a Printer Error

There are many reasons why printer errors can plague your machine. Obviously, you can't go out and buy a new printer every time your printer crashes. Still, there are some very obvious fixes for your printer's hardware and software. There are only a few types of printer errors, so it's eventually easy enough to summarize these errors and fix them.

Frequently Occurring Printer Errors

Of course, there are very common errors including paper jam, low ink, and low toner. In the case of the former problem, you must exercise caution when dealing with the jam. It's wise to always consult your printer's manual before you actually attempt to remove paper from the printer. If you don't, you could end up seriously damaging your printer. Also, always turn off your printer before you extract the paper from the printer.

There are some printers that contain a paper feed button which can facilitate the removal of the paper. If you've got one of these printers, try holding the paper feed button down before you open the printer's casing. It's an easy way to solve the problem.

When your ink is running low, your computer will usually notify you in the "Devices and Printers" category. It may even display a small warning on the taskbar. Take a look at these warnings, and make sure that you change any ink cartridges that are low. You can actually harm your printer by trying to "run on empty" when it comes to ink cartridges. The same goes for toner.

Network Printers and Updating Drivers

If your printer is installed on a network, then you need to contact the system administrator before you make any adjustments. All network printers depend on one another to some degree. Also, you might be dealing with a network problem rather than a hardware or software issue.

If you're having trouble with your printer, but you're not experiencing any of the problems previously listed, then it's very probable that you have to replace your printer drivers. Your printer drivers are basically your printer's gateway to the OS. Your operating system requires updated printer drivers to communicate effectively with the OS so that you can print jobs.

When your OS isn't able to recognize drivers, your printer shuts down. There are a few ways you can update your printer's drivers without going through too much hassle.

Windows Update

The first method for updating drivers is to utilize Windows Update, a built-in tool that looks in Microsoft's databases for your fix. Since most printers are manufactured by external companies, this isn't necessarily going to fix your printer problem.

You have the option to directly visit the manufacturer's website to find new drivers. Almost all manufacturers of printers will contain driver updates on their site. After all, they want you to continue using their products. Just look within the "Support" or "Downloads" category of the manufacturer's site.

How to Fix Runtime Error 482

Runtime Error 482 is an error that's caused when you try and use the "PrintForm" function inside Windows. The nature of the "runtime" error is such that it's caused when your PC is trying to run a certain part of the system, and is consequently unable to. To fix this error, you need to be able to fix the problems that can cause it.

The Runtime Error 482 normally shows in this form:

* Run-time error '482′: Printer Error
* Printer Error

Because this error is continually making computers around the World unable to print out, or use specific functions, it's important that you're able to fix the various problems that cause it to show. In order to fix Runtime error 482, you should first rectify the PrintForm protocol inside Windows, and then clean out the 'registry' with a registry cleaner.

The Runtime Error 482 is primarily caused by the PrintForm function inside your PC either being corrupted or damaged. If you're just an average user, you might not know what this is, or even how it's used on your PC. This is more for programmers - because in order to stop the 482 error, you should first call "End Doc" before using PrintForm. This will allow Windows to perform the various functions it needs in the right way, allowing your PC to run without the error again.

After you've done that, you should then use a 'registry cleaner' to fix any damaged settings inside the registry of your PC. The registry is a central database which stores vital settings for Windows, including everything from your desktop wallpaper and your latest emails. The registry is often referred to as the "hidden workhorse" of Windows because it's continually being used 100's of times by your PC. The only problem is that it's continually being damaged, causing your PC to run slower and with errors.

The Runtime 482 error can be caused if various printer settings inside the registry become damaged, making it essential you keep this part of your PC secure and functional. To do this, you need to use a 'registry cleaner', which is an automated tool that can fix all the damaged settings inside your PC.

A Thorough Guide to Fixing That Printer That is Not Working

When your printer is not working, workflow can be seriously interrupted. Most PC users are dependent on printers to create important documents that are indispensable. As a result, a malfunctioning printer can cause all sorts of problems.

However, you can repair your printer with relative ease if you follow a few simple steps. Let's go over common printer error symptoms and how you can fix a broken printer.

Repairing The Print Spooler

One of the most common errors is related to the print spooler. The print spooler is a very important component that stores data on your print logs. In other words, the print spooler saves all assigned print jobs so that you can print things sequentially.

If it takes a ridiculously long time to print a document, or you see error messages related to the print spooler, then you need to take proactive steps to repair the print spooler. This does require restarting your computer and then making adjustments to the Print Spooler service. We can go over these basics here.

1. You'll need to access Administrative Tools, so click "Start."
2. Go to "Control Panel."
3. Open "System and Maintenance."
4. Then, open "Administrative Tools."
5. Open "Services."
6. Then, right-click on the service labeled "Print Spooler."
7. Click "Properties."
8. Select the tab labeled "General", and look next to the "Startup type" box. Ensure that you've selected "Automatic."
9. You might need to click "Service status", then "Start", then "OK", if the service isn't running already. Otherwise, you're done.

Attacking Common Printer Issues

This process should quickly resolve your issues related to the Print Spooler. If it doesn't then you may need to reinstall drivers and check your hardware. If your printer is only printing blurry or faded documents, that's a sure sign that you need to replace your ink or toner cartridges.

Normally, the print queue will display messages related to low ink and toner. You should check the Devices and Printers menu if you're dealing with poor output documents.

This menu will also inform you if the printer is out of paper, or if there's a paper jam. If you don't see any of these messages, but your printer still isn't working, then it's very likely that you need to replace your printer drivers.

Updating Printer Drivers

Outdated printing drivers make it impossible for your operating system to process print jobs. As a result, you need to update drivers rapidly. One easy way to update drivers is to use Windows Update.

Windows Update will apply automatic updates to your system. However, sometimes it doesn't replace printer drivers. You can also try manually installing drivers by visiting the printer manufacturer website and downloading drivers there.

Steps to Resolve HP Printer Error 49

HP Printer Error code 49 is shown when you try and print out a document on your system. It is normally caused by a failure in communication between your PC and your printer, making it impossible for your printer to be able to handle the work you want it to print. The issues that cause this error typically include the likes of invalid print commands, damaged data transfer, invalid operators and registry errors.

The first step to fix this error is to "calibrate" the printer. This basically means that you use several inbuilt Windows features to not only make sure your computer recognizes the printer, but is also able to perform operations & print from it. To do this, you basically just need to turn off the printer, and then turn it back on again. After you've done that, test out the printer from another application, and if that works, you should look at what could be causing the problem in the other application you were using. If the printer doesn't work on a different application, then you should "reinstall" the printer on your system by using the "Device Manager" to remove the device and then install it again.

This process should basically wipe your computer's current configuration for the printer, and reinstall it as a new device. It's often the case that printers will either become damaged, corrupt or unusable for some small, unknown problems on your PC. You may also wish to reinstall the drive for the device as well.

On top of doing that, you should repair the registry of your PC. This is very important, as the registry is often cited the biggest reason why HP printer errors will show up. The problem is that the 'registry' is continually being saved incorrectly, causing many of its important files & settings to become damaged. This not only makes it very difficult for your PC to read the registry files it needs, but will also cause a variety of errors on your system, including Error Code 49.

A Tip For Solving Most Printer Errors

Ever have blinking lights on your inkjet or laser printer that just will not go away? Ever install a new ink cartridge in your printer and it still thinks the old one is there? Well, instead of just getting angry at the printer or hunting around for your manual, you can try one simple thing: unplug it.

This technique has a few names that all mean the same thing: cycling the printer, resetting the printer or clearing the printer’s memory. Now unplugging your printer may seem like a low-tech solution to complex problems, and in reality it is. But, for problems like blinking error lights it is the only solution and also, it is typically the first one that will be recommended to you by a technician working for HP, Lexmark, Epson etc. They will recommend it right away if you install a new cartridge and it is registering as empty. If your printer isn’t registering it full, then that means it still thinks the old cartridge is in there and the memory needs to be cleared by unplugging it.

The first thing to remember about this solution is that unplugging the printer is not the same as turning the printer off. If you have error messages or cartridge communication problems, then turning off the printer is not going to do anything. It has to be physically unplugged from the wall or the back of the printer itself (you don’t have to unplug the printer from the computer). The second and most important thing is that the printer must be unplugged for at least one minute. It takes at least one minute for all the electricity to be cut off from the printer to allow it to completely reset and clear its memory. If you just unplug it for a few seconds, when it comes back on it is going to pick up right where it left off.

While this technique will not fix every problem, it is still a very quick and easy solution to a lot of annoying printer problems and it is always the best place to start when one of those problems arises.

Printer Error - Steps To Repair The 482 Error On Your PC

The Runtime 482 "Printer Error" is a common problem for many Windows computers. The issue is caused by the way in which your computer cannot properly read the printer settings / configuration on your system, which will prevent your PC from being able to load up the files it requires to print out a document for you. Although this error may seem tough to fix, the good news is that you can cure it pretty easily if you're able to repair the various files & settings which cause it in the first place.

The error you're seeing will generally show in this format:

Run-time error ‘482′: Printer Error or Printer Error

There are a number of reasons for this Runtime 482 error to show, from having the incorrect Printer Drivers to some sort of issue with the software you're using on your PC.

The good news is that if you want to fix this error, you can easily repair the various problems which first cause it to show by both updating the printer settings on your system and then repairing the various Windows settings which could be leading to the error. Here's how to do it...

The first step to fixing this runtime 482 printer error is to stop using "PrintForm" in any software that you're using. This is mainly for developers, as the "PrintForm" command is a code-level operation which can be called by the developer. Unfortunately, many Windows programs use this command incorrectly - leading your computer to be unable to read the files and settings it requires to run. If you want to resolve the error, you should either re-install the program that's causing the problem or update it with a new version.

The second step to fixing the runtime 482 error is to repair your computer's registry settings.

These are all stored in a big database on your PC, and basically keep your system running as smoothly as possible by helping Windows recall the various files and settings it needs to run. If you're seeing the 482 error on your PC, it could be caused by a poor set of data inside the registry, which can be fixed quite easily by using a "registry cleaner" tool to fix the problems your Pc has. Doing this should resolve the error completely for you.

Printer Error 49 Fix - How To Repair The 49 Error With Your HP Printer

Printer Error 49 usually appears when you are attempting to print a document using a HP printer and then a communication failure error occurs between the computer and the printer. However, there are other probable causes for this message with an error 49 code to appear. There is a chance that it is related to the file that is being printed, or it could be due to a firmware problem. You must determine the cause of the problem and then fix the error to be able to make use of your printer again. This tutorial will guide you how to resolve printer error 49 on HP printers.
HP printer error 49 is typically caused by invalid print commands, damaged or corrupted data, invalid operations or sometimes registry issues. Some problems that can be easily fixed are caused by poor quality of the parallel cables that connect the printer to the computer. To stop the error messages from appearing, you must make sure that all possible causes are ruled out.
The way to fix HP printer error 49 is to first calibrate the printer. You can calibrate your printer by performing all these steps:
  • Clear the print job from memory by pressing the Cancel Job command.
  • Restart the printer by turning it off and on again.
  • Print another job and this time from a different program.
  • If the job printing was successful, return to the first application and print another file.
  • If the error message shows up only with a specific software program or print job, contact the software vendor to get assistance from them.
  • If the error message persists even with a different software application and print job, take off all the cables that connect the printer to the PC or the network and then turn off the printer.
  • Open the printer and remove the entire set of memory DIMMS or third party DIMMS, but, DO NOT remove the firmware DIMM inserted in slot J1.
  • Also, remove all the EIO devices from the computer.
  • Turn on the printer again.
  • If the error message does not appear again, then one by one return each of the DIMMS and EIO devices and turn the printer on and off each time you install a device.
  • If you have pinpointed a specific device, replace it.
  • Reconnect all the cables to hook the printer back up again to the computer or network.
  • If the error code 49 still persists, replace the DIMM firmware.
  • Lastly, replace the formatter of the printer and then calibrate the printer again.
After calibrating your HP printer, you have to make sure that your Windows registry is free from errors. The registry is an important component of Windows that stores all file and program settings that allow your operating system remember to load and use the different programs on your PC. Despite its significance in your system, it can be affected by the constant use it inevitably undergoes. You need to resolve registry issues by using a reliable registry cleaner that can thoroughly clean your registry. We highly recommend that you make use of "Frontline Registry Cleaner", which can resolve 99% of system faults found in your system, allowing you to use your computer in its optimal condition.

Windows Update will apply automatic updates to your system. However, sometimes it doesn't replace printer drivers. You can also try manually installing drivers by visiting the printer manufacturer website and downloading drivers there.

Finally, it's possible to find strong driver update software to replace all of your old drivers. The right kind of driver update program will do all the work for you. In other words, it'll search your system for old drivers and then find the new ones. It will then do a complete installation of these new drivers.

Most Common 10 Printer Problems That You Can Easily Fix Yourself

As in the case with the most of mechanical devices, printers can also cease to work or many produce inconsistent or unexpected results. Though there are many variants and each can develop a separate kind of fault, but there are some common faults which, if you know how to fix, can easily save the cost of calling a printer repair service provider.

1) Fuzzy print

Sometimes we notice fuzzy print, letter or graphics on pages and we think that something is wrong with the printer. But this is not the case. Fuzzy print is caused due to printing on a damp paper. The paper which is stored outside has the tendency to absorb moisture.

Solution: Print of unwrapped photo paper.

2) Paper Jams

Paper jams is one of most common problem which one encounters. A paper jam can occur due to variety of reasons like wrong selection of paper, dirt on rollers or paper.

Solution: Try to use right kind of paper. If problem still persists, open the lid of the printer can clean the rollers. If rollers have worn out you can get them replaced.

3) Ghosting

When you see lighter copy of image somewhere else along with the original image, this is termed as ghosting. The reason for the same can be problematic power supply or faulty drums.

Solution: Check the power cable by plugging it in other printer to see if problem still persists or not. If it persists, replace the power cord. If it doesn't, this can be caused by drum or imaging kit which needs to be replaced.

4) 50.4 error message

While printing with many HP printers, 50.4 error pops up. This error message indicated that something is wrong with the power supply.

Solution: If printer is on UPS, remove it from there and plug it in main supply. As an advice, a laser printer should never be plugged in the UPS as it can damage the printer.

5) Printer picking up all pages instead of one

For this problem, pad which separates the paper is responsible.

Solution: You can easily replace the worn out pad.

6) 79 error message

This printer error message is shown due to some fault in network print server.

Solution: First make sure, no printing jobs are pending. It can also crop up due to add-on component. For this, first remove all add-on components and then insert them one by one to see where the fault lies.

7) Envelopes

Sometimes it becomes impossible to print on envelopes correctly.

Solution: Use those envelopes which are around 20-lb in thickness and weight. Adhesive used should also be of good quality which can easily withstand the heat.

8) Rubbish print

Sometimes meaningless lines get printed. This is caused due to communication errors.

Solution: Check cable which connects system and printer. If it's connected well, reset the printer and again print the work.

9) Split images

Sometimes you get images broken in two pages and most likely the reason is lack of inadequate memory.

Solution: You need to add additional memory if error crops up many times, or can check for memory errors with self test function.

10) Faded Print

Sometimes, the print is faded.

Solution: Either the toner is getting empty or print density is set to low, or economic mode is one. For last two options, print density can be increased to see if problem doesn't persist.

How to Clean a Printhead

The thing about modern printers is that they are delicate machines that require highly skilled technicians for most repair tasks. However there are a few jobs that are perfectly suited for the owner, tasks that requires less than no technical insight.

While replacement of ink cartridges as well as installing the printhead and setting up wireless networking is often covered by the manual, few if no manufactures have cared to write a guide on how to deal with clogged printheads. There is of course a perfectly good reason for this in that a new printhead will often set you back more than you paid for the printer itself, which leaves you the expense of buying a new printer - or trying to solve the matter yourself.

Now, since there are several types of printers on the market, including Epsons with a fixed printhead that makes it very difficult if not impossible to clean, and this article is written as an introduction to the subject, rather than a guide to a specific type of printer, please go about cleaning your printhead only if you feel absolute confident about the task.

It makes little sense to tell you - should you be the happy owner of an Epson printer with a fixed printhead - that these are considered to be of somewhat higher quality than those of competitor brands, and therefore should not require the same level of maintainance…because you wouldn’t be reading this article then, would you? Well, the good news is that I have an advice for you as well, but the result may depend on you beeing able to actually reach the printhead.

The main reason that printheads become clogged are a lack of use of the printer. The ink will simple dry and block the nozzles through which the ink is applied to the paper. The nozzles of a modern inkjet printer are capable of delivering amounts of ink as little as 1 picolitre. A picolitre is 10-12 L which might give you an idea of how small an amount of ink, dirt or dust is required to clogg it.

The ink tends to dry into a hardened mass that is not easily cleaned, but still do not under any circumstances try to remove dry ink with a tool of any kind. Even a needle is many times the thickness of a nozzle and could damage the printhead altogether.

The way to go is with either hot water or isopropyl alcohol. First run the cleaning/service rutine as described by the manufacturer 10 times and if there is no visible results or improvement, go ahead with the following:

Open the printer and locate the cartridges which sits in connection with the printhead. Remove the printhead and soak it in hot water or isopropyl alcohol and leave it on the desk till the morning, then inspect it before inserting it back into the printer. If this dosen’t work put a few drops of hot water in the cartridge and run the cleaning rutine. Note: If you possess an old cartridge use that, widening the hole at the top to help insert the water.

Utilities Inkjet Printer

For those looking for low to mid volume crisp colour printing, laser printers are the best choice. They also fit into nominal budgets and are also available in a range of sizes and portable ones too.

The resolution of a printer is measured in dpi (dots per inch - both horizontally and vertically) It is crucial because this is what determine the overall print quality. Dpi is usually 600 x 600 and the higher end ones are 4800 x 1200. Equally important is the speed, which varies from 8 - 20ppm (pages per minute) for monochrome and 2 - 12ppm for colour prints. Most inkjets can handle A4 as a norm, whereas some are designed to handle A2 (poster size) and transparencies too. Photo printers are the new kind that enables exact reproduction of the multitude of colours in photos. There are printers with built-in memory card readers

Lexmark, Epson, Samsung, Canon, HP are some major names selling quality inkjets. Maintenance cost of these printers mainly involves cartridge replacement or refill. Some printers come with 3 to 4 cartridges in built, which mean slower replacement of cartridges. The inkjet printers are the most essential component used for printing purpose. Advantages in the inkjet printers are high when compared with the normal printers, whereas the printing quality and the resolution in it are also high.

When compared with the laser printers, the quality of printing in the inkjet printers varies in terms of accuracy and resolution. Generally in the inkjet printers 4 types of colours are formed. When it is taken in terms of cost, they are not much expensive when compared with the other types of printers. Though there are various types of printers available in the market, the latest inkjet printers are still preferred by the people who generally look out for high-quality printing with best resolution. The inkjet printers fall in the category of non-impact printers.

The use of the inkjet printers are high in all terms where they are used for multiple purpose giving the best output. One of the advantages of the inkjet printers are these are said to be light weight and maintenance of the device is also good. Most of the inkjet printers come with removable cartridge and if the colour gets down they can be easily refilled, whereas these provisions are not available in various other cartridges. These inkjet printers work at a lower rate. In the printers, the print head plays a major role in printing. The dye sublimation and thermal wax are the recent technologies used in all types of printers.

Print Using an iPhone

The iPhone is more advanced than many other cell phones. Some people look at it as a pocket-sized computer rather than a phone. Unlike a computer, you can't attach your iPhone to a printer if you want to print photographs or documents. There are, however, several iPhone applications that allow you to print to a printer. This is done either by accessing the printer's wireless connection or by connecting to your computer, which sends the file to a printer.

Instructions

1. Install the free HP iPrint application on your iPhone. This application connects to a wireless HP printer through a Wi-Fi connection, printing out four-by-eight-inch photographs. If you don't have a wireless printer, you can wirelessly connect the iPhone to a computer using the application, and the photograph will go through the computer and into the attached printer.

2. Install the iPrintApp. It is an iPhone application that prints to a number of different brands of printers. The application can print directly to a wireless printer using a Wi-Fi connection, or to a computer connected to a printer. This application also has basic photo editing software, so you can rotate photographs and change the sizes.

3. Install ePrint on your iPhone. This is an application that allows you to print from your iPhone to any brand of printer. Not only can you print photographs, you can print pages from your calendar, PDFs and any type of text document you have. There is a free version of this application with limited functions, as well as a full version you can buy.

Fastest Methods For Fixing Printer Errors

Choose Driver Update Software to Repair Drivers Rapidly

Another alternative is to utilize driver update software, which is a type of software used to replace old drivers. This software is easy to use, and will install new drivers on your machine in a matter of minutes. It's very convenient and doesn't take a lot of time. So, it's a good recommendation to utilize driver update software to fix printer errors.

Inkjet Vs Laser Printer

In the early days there was a vast difference between an inkjet printer and its laser version but with time the difference has narrowed down to point where it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between the two. Most individuals continue to use the Inkjet printers, as they are less expensive and nearly all of them are colour capable. The quality of the inkjet printers has improved over time and now there is not a huge difference in printing quality with the Laser printers. It's for this reason that small or home business can use an inkjet printer without having to worry about documents looking unclear or looking cheap.

The laser printer is capable of printing much faster and usually produces better quality image, it is far more expensive as compared to the Inkjet version. Laser printers are usually used for black printing but there are colour laser printers available now.

Having pointed that out, it is also useful to note that the general rule of the thumb for printers is 'the lesser the cost of the printer, the more expensive the running cost". This could however depend on the volume of printing the printer is being used for. If the printing volume were minimal, it would be more cost effective to use an inkjet printer. It is very easy to get carried away by the initial price of an inkjet printer but people buying them are often not aware that the running cost of the machine would play a huge part and should be factored into the decision making.

This would be better understood with an example. Let us consider a Canon i320 colour bubble jet printer. It usually does not cost more than £30 obviously subject to the discounts applicable at your store. The cost of a cartridge is usually in the £10 range and on an average it prints 170 pages. Even if you print as few as 7 pages a day that works out to 2100 pages over the year. This in turn works out to an annual expense of approximately £135. The amount one spends on cartridges is approximately 4 times the price of the printer in the first year itself. This is the reason the subsequent expenditure needs to be taken into consideration while buying a printer.

Inkjet printers come with some added problems that need to be looked at and taken into consideration.

1. To begin with they are not as fast as the Laser printers. This is one reason why Inkjet printers are not recommended when printing needs to be done in large volumes.
2. They are known to throw up cartridge error messages even though the cartridges might be working just fine. This is not to say that Inkjet printers are always problematic but these are just a few errors that do crop up once in a while.
3. The print can also start going haywire sometimes and it may start printing in endless loops.
4. It is often difficult to minimize and regulate the amount of ink being used in the Inkjet printers.
5. There is a difference in quality of an Inkjet print and a laser print. Often the laser print is of better quality.

It is for these reasons that the laser printers sales have taken of in a very big way in spite of being a more expensive buy.

However, in comparison to the laser printers, there are a few positives about the inkjet printers, which are more suitable to the requirements of a small or home business where they do not need to print as many in terms of volumes.

Colour laser printers have been around for some time but they were frightfully expensive a few years ago. A recent study found that last year nearly 1.85 million colour laser printers were sold, a substantial growth from the previous year. A large number of offices are going in for the colour page printers. This is however not recommended if you do not need to print fliers or brochures in large volumes consistently.

There are a few other advantages that come with a laser printer, for example:

1. Using a duplex unit: This would enable the user to print back to back. This is particularly useful for creating brochures and leaflets.
2. Add a paper drawer: This would reduce the number of user interventions and in turn reduces the printer errors
3. Assigning different paper trays for different drafts can be used to print different documents without messing about with the tray each time.
4. An Ethernet or a wireless network card can be added to the printer to attach it to a network. This functionality can be availed in the laser printer.

This is just to outline the benefits of using each kind of a printer. This is aimed at helping the user to weigh the pros and the cons before buying a printer.

Adding Years to Your Printer

Taking good care of what you already have saves a great amount of your money. And it also applies to your printers. Although you may say there are many printers already available online that are affordable and can give quality prints, it is wiser to know at least some pointers on how to properly take care of your printers to save your money.

Printing company reviews on printers reveal that taking care of your printer combination device is a great way to extend its life, and save your budget.

Many people, especially employees, expect that printers can take good care of themselves when something goes wrong. Printers according to online printing reviews are the workaholic office device. If you visit some companies, you will notice that almost always printers are on the run and printing. It has been said and was discussed on some online printing reviews that printers are often overlooked by its users. People or employees don't give much attention to cleaning not unless it already needs a change of ink. Not knowing that maintenance or taking good care of this device can make its life longer, here are some printing maintenance procedures that you can apply to your printer.

Printer Heads Adjusting

You can usually encounter a misprint problem on your printer. Printer heads that are out of alignment is the main reason. Getting heads back into alignment is a tricky task, which is why you want to allow the machine to check and adapt each time you install a new cartridge. Many smaller machines, designed for home use, will do this automatically. Larger models may leave it up to the user. Consult your manual for specific instructions. If you don't have a manual, scroll through the device menu.

Head Unjamming
If in case your printer head is jammed, one (or more) colors may print light (or not at all) even when you have sufficient ink. To un-jam a printer's head follow these steps:

Turn off and pull out the printer cable. Always perform this step whenever you want to see something inside the printer to avoid electric shock.

Open the printer's casing in a similar manner that you would to put in a new ink or toner cartridge. Set aside some screws for easier reassembling.

Take out the cartridge. If it is not empty then you need to put it on paper towels or in a plastic bag.

Find the printer head nozzles. They will be small tubes or openings.

Look for a jam. This will seem like crusting or a clog. Don't pull out the paper harshly, so as not leave any small cuts.

If you see a clog, get a pin or a needle. A pin or needle will help you remove some clogs. Slowly and gently insert it into the heart of the clog and pull slowly. The clog should either pull out or crumble.

If there is still residue left then you should wipe it with a baby or Windex wipe. After you have cleaned all the clogs, replace the ink and run a self-test. Printers have built in self-test printing.

Fix a Dry Ink Cartridge

Ink cartridges can stop working for a variety of reasons, but one of the most common is dry ink. Usually this is due the cartridge nozzles being clogged with dry ink, rather than the ink inside the cartridge being dry--a far less common occurrence for which there is no fix other than to purchase a new cartridge. Dried, clogged nozzles, however, is a problem that may be fixed.

Things You'll Need:

* Warm water
* Sink or bowl
* Soft cloth
* Cotton swab
* Rubbing alcohol

1. Run the printer's print-head cleaning utility. The location of this will vary depending on the printer, but it can usually be found on your computer under "Contol Panel" and "Printers," or in the case of printers with LED screens, on the printer's menu itself.

2. Remove the cartridge from the printer if the print-head cleaner doesn't cause ink to flow. Soak it in a bowl or sink filled with enough warm water to immerse the print head nozzles, long enough to see ink beginning to dissolve and flow into the water. Alternately, you can soak a cloth in warm water and use it to clean the nozzles until you see ink begin to flow.

3. Thoroughly dry the nozzles with a soft, lint-free cloth once the cleaning process is complete.

4. Replace the cartridge into the printer and run the printer's print-head cleaning utility.

5. Repeat the cleaning procedure if the cartridge still doesn't print. Reinstall and once again run the print-head cleaning utility.

How To Change Print Quality to Draft Mode

Changing print quality to Draft Mode can help save time and ink. It's easy to do--just remember to change it back if you want to print something that looks great. I'll demonstrate using Windows and the Pixma MP530 all-in-one, but it should work much the same in any inkjet printer.

 1. In Windows, click on the Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. Choose Printers and Other Hardware from the menu that opens.
3. Choose View Installed Printers or Fax Printers.
4. On the window that opens, look for your printer's name. Right click on the printer's icon and choose Printing Preferences.
5. On the Print Quality tab, choose Draft or Fast (varies depending on the printer).
6. If you want to conserve your color ink, choose Grayscale Printing on the same tab (just remember you'll have to uncheck that box if you want to print something in color).
7. Press OK. That's it; now your printer will automatically print in Draft Mode (and in grayscale, if you chose that option) until you change it back. To change it, simply follow the same instructions and choose Standard for print quality.

FIX Dell Printer Error 0502?

When a problem is encountered with a Dell printer, an error message is displayed. Often these errors can be resolved at home without the need for a specialist with computer knowledge.

Error 0502
1. Error code 0502 is a stalled carrier error. In the majority of cases, this means there is something physically stopping the carrier from moving freely within the printer. This could be a misaligned encoder strip or other debris that has fallen into the printer.
Possible Resloutions
2. Resolutions to this error include cleaning out the inside of the printer, ensuring that the encoder strip is aligned correctly and is in the appropriate guide channel, ensuring that the ink cartridges are fitted correctly and ensuring that the carrier runs smoothly on its rail.

These are all steps that can be taken at home without the need for any computer experience.

Printer problems in Windows

Introduction

This tutorial is designed to help you identify and fix common printer problems in Windows, including print errors, print spooler errors, and other issues that could prevent you from printing. This tutorial doesn't cover printing problems related to specific programs. Printing problems can be caused by cables that aren't connected properly, corrupt drivers, incompatible drivers, printer settings, missing updates, and problems with your printer.

How to use this tutorial

For best results, complete each step before you move on to the next one. Try printing after each step before going to the next step.

Step 1: Check hardware

Many printing problems are caused by hardware that isn't set up property. Here's some information about how to plug cables in to the correct locations and make sure the printer has power.

Check if the cables are connected properly

Check to make sure that the printer's electrical cord is plugged in to the electrical outlet, and that the printer cable is properly connected from the printer to the computer.

Check the power

Check to ensure that the printer's power switch is turned on, or if you're printing to a shared printer or a printer on a network, make sure that all necessary computers, routers, and printers are turned on. If your printer or other equipment is plugged in to a surge protector or a backup power supply, make sure that hardware is plugged in and turned on as well.

Step 2: Update drivers

Most printers require driver software to work properly. Outdated, incompatible, or corrupted printer drivers can disrupt communication between the computer and the printer. If you recently upgraded from one version of Windows to another, it's possible that the current printer driver is for the previous version of Windows. If you've had recent power outages, viruses, or other computer problems, it's possible that the drivers have become corrupted. Downloading and installing the latest driver for your printer can resolve these types of problems.
Here are three ways to find and install a driver:
  • Use Windows Update. You might need to set Windows Update to automatically download and install recommended updates.
  • Install software from the printer manufacturer. For example, if your printer came with a disc, that disc might contain software that installs a driver for the printer.
  • Download and install the driver yourself. You can search for a driver on the manufacturer's website. Try this if Windows Update can't find a driver for your printer, and the printer didn't come with software that installs a driver.
For more information about updating your printer driver, follow the steps below that apply to the version of Windows you have on your computer. For information about printers that are compatible with Windows, visit the Windows Compatibility Center.
